Psalm 139

Friends,

This Psalm really lifts me up, and I learn more about God through meditating on it. It speaks of the 3 divine attributes of God.

(i) In verse 3-4, God knows us through and through.. there is nothing that He does not know about us. He knows me "when I sit and when I rise" and He is "familiar with all my ways". Wow! God is a personal God! How and why does God knows so much about me? In verse 13-14, it tells me that "I am fearfully and wonderfully made". That is why God knows me thoroughly; He is the one who created and formed me (verses 14-15).

(ii) Verses 7-10 tells me that His presence surrounds me wherever I am and I cannot hide from Him ("where can I go from your Spirit? where an I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths you are there"). Our God is a God who is omnipresence (ever-present) and we cannot hide from Him who created and formed us.

We see here that God is not only omniscient but He is also omnipresent. Another attribute of God is that He is a God who is omnipotent (all-powerful). David knew of this attribute of God when he said in verse 19 "if only you would slay the wicked O God!"

I pray that this short sharing on His 3 attributes is a blessing to you.

Psalm 91

I love Psalm 91 because it has promises of God’s protection and refuge in times of trouble. Verse 3 tells us that God will save us from pestilence and in verses 5- 8 tells us of His protection from attacks of the enemies.

However, there is a condition in order for us to come under His divine protection. Psalm 91:1-2 tells us that “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”. Therefore, we see that the promises of God’s protection and refuge are only for those who “dwell in the secret place of the Most High”. How then do we “dwell in the secret place of the Most High God”? We know that there is no short cut.. and it’s only by spending time in the presence of God and remaining in His presence. Only then can we say that we are dwelling in the secret place of the Most High.

Question: We all need God’s protection daily but do we spend time in His presence and minister to Him? Do we make the Most High God our dwelling – not just in times of trouble.. but even when things are going well?

Verse 2 reads “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him will I trust”

Question: Can we trust God in every situation that we are going through? Throughout my spiritual journey, I have found that it has been easy for me to trust God when everything is going well with my life.. but it has been rather difficult for me to trust God during the times when I go through rough times.

Friends, I pray that you and I will meditate on this Psalm and allow Him to search our hearts today.

Treasure Your Life

Dear friends,

I received a very shocking news on Thursday morning (9/11) through sms - informing me about the sudden death of Bro. Keow, a church member who died of a massive heart attack. This piece of news not only shocked me.. but in fact many church members who knew Bro. Keow. He not only looked healthy, but he was one who was full of the joy of the Lord and who was actively serving the Lord in church.

The whole church (particularly those who knew him) rallied support for the whole family throughout the 2 days of memorial service and I understand that hundreds of ppl attended memorial service on both days. That demonstrates christian love and I believe the family was touched.

His death cause me to ponder "life is really short.. what am i doing about it?". In these last days, many things can happen but the word of God tells us that His word shall remain. I am one of the many ppl who was "shaken" by the death of Bro. Keow as he was very committed to the Lord and a very jovial bro.

Friends, let us take heed that "time and tide waits for no man" (and I am reminding myself of this too!!) - that we really need to move on with what God has for our life so that His will and His purpose can be accomplished in us and through us.

As for Bro. Keow's family, I know they can take comfort that He is now safe in the arms of Jesus.. for He has gone to a far better place!

Blessings,
Meng Choo
